Arsenal have drawn links to former Aston Villa flop, Jordan Veretout and the Claret and Blues fans are absolutely stunned to hear this bit of news.
The midfielder was cast out of Villa Park after failing to meet expected standards during his 29 appearances for the newly promoted Premier League outfit. Veretout left the Villains for a loan spell with Saint Etienne in 2016 and has managed to refurbish his career in the Fiorentina ranks.
Arsenal have sent shockwaves across the country after news surfaced of them being interested in the Frenchman. Despite his failed Villa period, Veretout has impressed so much for the Serie A outfit that he is being seriously considered as an immediate addition by the Gunners.
I guess with Unai Emery’s limited capacity in this summer’s transfer window, the Arsenal faithful have to get used such names popping up on the club’s radar. The fans have been demanding for a marquee centre-half signing after the defensive calamity they showed this past season.
However, for years the Gunners have settled on cheap and relatively unknown figures to fill up their squad ranks which they hope to develop later. Some have emerged as outstanding talents but many a times have Arsenal seen their hopeful plan get tarnished.
Veretout scored 5 goals and set up 4 assists in 37 appearances this past campaign. He averaged the highest number of passes for his team as well (55) and is being pursued by Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli.
With Arsenal losing Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer it has become necessary for Emery to find an able replacement. Veretout could be the passing figure in the central spot, adding a lot of versatility and discipline into the midfield.
