It has been well documented that Mikel Arteta wanted Auoar in his squad for the 2020/21 season.
His creativity and playmaking ability would have been a valuable addition to a lacklustre midfield at the Emirates. Arsenal ended up signing Thomas Partey on transfer deadline day when their attempts for Auoar failed.
Olympique Lyon announced that Arsenal’s offers were not good enough and will be keeping him for the new campaign. The Mirror claims that the Gunners had a convincing bid for Lyon but could not come up with the £10m agent’s fee.
Auoar’s very own brother represents him and was asking for a humongous amount upfront for the transfer. Arsenal refused to pay that amount and ended up losing out on the midfielder’s signature. Reports suggested that personal terms had already been agreed with Auoar.
If that is the case, Arsenal fans would not be too disappointed in the failed transaction. After all, it is reasonable to reject such an unnecessary added expense to a transfer. There is still a possibility of signing Auoar in the future, perhaps even in the January transfer market.
