Unai Emery wants the new Arsenal signings to adapt quicker to their new surroundings.
Five new faces entered the Emirates gates this summer – Nicolas Pepe, Gabriel Martinelli, David Luiz, Kieran Tierney and on loan from Real Madrid, Dani Ceballos.
Other than Tierney, the other players have featured for Arsenal sometime this season. However, Arsenal still looks like a side far from title-challenging quality. The transitional phase of turning back into a top English side is still ongoing.
“First we need to improve the adaptation of the different players who have come here in the last moments,” Emery told the official Arsenal website.
“Also we need to improve in our way. For example, I think we can continue being very offensive with a lot of important offensive players.
“We also want to take the balance defensively to be strong and I think the first four matches allowed us to show our first characteristic – to be offensive. Maybe we need to continue working to create a balance defensively in some moments and also tactically when making some decisions.
“But really the most important thing is how we can show our support and our energy, our spirit. We want to win each match but also to show them our speed, our energy playing with intensity. I think we are working to do that in our way, in our target of giving them a big characteristic for us. We want to play with energy.”
The coach is setting demands for his players and now, it is up to the players to meet those demands, both individually and for the team. Hopefully, this will raise the standards of performance at North London and will finally be able to return the Gunners to Champions League football.
