William Saliba had pre-season discussions with Arteta.

The French defender joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019 but was sent out loan spells at Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille in the past three seasons.

Last season he played a key role for Marseille making 51 appearances in all competitions and was on the verge of joining them on a permanent deal.

But Saliba made it clear that he wants to fight and force his way into Arteta’s XI.

He is currently traveling with Arsenal on the pre-season tour in the USA and the 21-year-old defender reveals his intentions for the upcoming season.

“We spoke a little bit on Monday and will speak more,” Saliba told the club’s official website.

“My plan is to fight and work with the team, win as much as possible, and grow more. It feels good to be back and starting pre-season.

“I’m so excited to continue training and playing in the friendly games. It’s important to be here with the fans, as well as my teammates. I hope we’ll enjoy some good training and games which is important before the start of the season.”
