Xabi Alonso has denied reports of him getting linked to Arsenal as Mikel Arteta’s second in comand.
It has been widely reported that Arteta is close to being confirmed as the new Gunners boss.
This sparked off rumours that the Spaniard might call on his close friend and compatriot, Alonso to join him at the Emirates. Alonso hung up his boots in 2017 and then proceeded to complete a special coaching course through UEFA. After coaching the Real Madrid U14s he proceeded to manage the Real Sociedad B side.
Speaking to the press in Spain, Alonso revealed he is focused at his current job. “I’m at ease here, my head is only here,” Alonso said. “I have no other thoughts. No proposal has come to me and I am where I want to be. I’m very happy.
“Things are going well. I’m just starting, I’m enjoying it and it’s serving me well. When the club and I decided to work here, everything made sense. Over time you reaffirm that it was a good decision.”
News outlets have claimed that Arsenal have already agreed terms with Arteta and is in the process of finalising his appointment.
