Alexandre Lacazette remains Olympique Lyonnais’ priority target for the summer transfer window

Lyon’s goal for the summer transfer window remains Alexandre Lacazette, although their anticipated absence from Europe next season makes that more difficult.

As a result, Lyon has begun to look into alternative targets, including speaking with Breel Embolo officials from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Mikel Arteta has already stated that Arsenal will explore the possibility of extending Lacazette’s contract at the conclusion of the season, with sources claiming that the club might give a new one-year deal with the option to extend for another season.

However, such allegations were made before Eddie Nketiah burst into the starting lineup and scored four goals in five games. If the Gunners were to push for one of them now, Nketiah would seem to be the favourite.

Even if he does not end up with Lyon, Lacazette stated in April that he is in talks with a number of other new teams.

“It’s a bit more complicated,” Lacazette conceded. “I want to play in Europe, it’s been a long time since I played in the Champions League, I’m missing it.

“It’s a little more complicated, nothing is impossible in life, but it’s a little more complicated.”

Lyon now sits ninth in Ligue 1 with two games remaining and a five-point lead over the clubs in the European spots. It’s almost certain they won’t play in Europe, which Lacazette admits is an issue for him.
