Calum Chambers joined Arsenal from Southampton on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee, rising to a potential £16 million with performance-related add-ons in 2014. He made 23 Premier League appearances for them in his debut season.
But the 23 year old has struggled to nail down a regular place in the Starting XI since then as there was lots of competition. He has only featured further 25 times in the Premier League, spending the 2016/2017 campaign on loan with Middlesborough.
The Centre-back managed to make 24 appearances in all competitions but the club finished 5th in the Premier League. His future has been uncertain ahead of the summer transfer window as new manager Unai Emery prioritized signing centre-backs this summer.
Defence has been a key weakness for the Premier League giants in recent years, with the Spanish manager keen to rectify that. The club have been heavily linked with a move for defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Caglar Soyuncu.
But Chambers is expected to sign a new four-year contract at Arsenal today, according to the reports.
The former PSG boss sees huge potential in him and wants him to fight for a place in the Starting XI. He signed a new 2 year contract with them last year and is contracted until 2021.
BBC Sport’s David Ornstein tweeted: Calum Chambers will today sign a new 4yr contract with Arsenal to keep him there until 2022. Only signed 2yr extension in Oct 2017 that tied him down until 2021 but new head coach Unai Emery sees huge potential in 23yo + wants him to compete for starting berth at centre-back #AFC.
Granit Xhaka has already signed a new contract extension with the club and Aaron Ramsey is also expected to commit his long term future with them in the coming days.
