Ilkay Gundogan is out of contract with Man City in the summer.

The 32-year-old played a key role in Man City’s historic season under Pep Guardiolable as they completed the treble on Saturday evening.

The German midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs including Arsenal, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund as he will be out of contract in the summer.

A player like Gundogan could elevate Arsenal’s midfield to higher levels and would straight away fit into the left-sided No.8 role.

Gundogan will follow in the footsteps of former teammates Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko if he decides to move to the Emirates.

Pep Guardiola wants his captain to stay at the Etihad beyond the summer.

Club legend Per Mertesacker believes Arsenal are in a good position to sign the German international this summer.

He said: ‘I think the clubs are queuing.

‘Because [Mikel] Arteta knows him and we probably haven’t broken off contact, we’re in a good position.

‘I think he’ll let it all sink in first and then choose from one of the four clubs.’
