At the Emirates Stadium, William Saliba has established a reputation for himself, and Arsenal is prepared to reward him with a new deal

Fabrizio Romano claims that negotiations are currently taking place between the 21-year-agents old’s and the Premier League’s lopsided leaders. Saliba returned to north London in the summer to try his fortunes under Mikel Arteta after an impressive season-long loan at Olympique Marseille in 2021–2022.

Even the most optimistic Arsenal supporter did not anticipate the defender to play such a significant part this season despite his eye-catching performances in Ligue 1.

Saliba, however, has defied expectations by securing a starting position opposite Gabriel Magalhaes at the centre of Arsenal’s backline in what may be a triumphant Premier League campaign that has been long anticipated. The pair have developed a strong working relationship, ranking third in Europe’s most difficult competition as a defensive unit.

Saliba and Gabriel have improved the reputation of Arsenal’s rearguard this season despite making a few mistakes here and there, which had been one of the team’s most frequently criticised positions for years. Power brokers in the Emirates have taken note of Saliba’s steadfast performances and are now eager to extend his current contract, which expires in 2024.

Despite not yet knowing the specifics of his new contract, it is understood that the player is similarly excited about committing his future to Arsenal. When the Premier League leaders host relegation-threatened Everton for a revenge-filled return match on Tuesday night, Saliba should start alongside Gabriel.
