Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham explains club’s lack of January transfers.

The Gunners will lose Eddie Nketiah, Mohammed Elneny and Alexandre Lacazette this summer when their contract expires.

Many moves failed to materialise in the January window and the club decided to wait till the summer window for further signings.

Mikel Arteta said last month: “We only want the best people and the best players at this club.

“When we are in a rush, or [there are] different pressures, and the reasons are not the right ones to get a player on board, we decided not to do it.”

Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham explained that the club was looking for deals in January but couldn’t bring in who they wanted.

“This is not happening in one or two windows unfortunately, but I think we are on the right path and I really believe so,” said Arteta.

“We are going to have some contracts that are ending [in the summer] and we are going to have to make a decision regarding where we are and we have the option to do that.

“We have players on loan that we are developing as well to understand where they can be and how much of a contribution they can have in the squad and obviously we are going to have to sign players in the summer, that’s without a question of a doubt.

“That’s something that we discuss here internally, with [technical director] Edu personally all the time, with the team.”
