Arsenal Considering Host Of Defensive Options After Chambers' Injury Woe

Arsenal are lining up three centre-backs this January shortly after Calum Chambers went down with a season-ending injury.

Reports claim Mikel Arteta has been handed funds to improve his defence line despite taking charge of the side for only three games.

The Gunners desperately need to add able bodies to their backline, having conceded the most goals in the top half of the Premier League table. Arteta’s arrival did bring it a significant level of change in performance but additions are still necessary.

This has led the club to venture into multiple transfer possibilities. RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano is at the top of their wishlist but Chelsea could also face competition for Nathan Ake.

Juventus’ Danielle Rugani could be a cheaper alternative and so Merih Demiral, who has appeared in just one Serie A game this season. Arsenal have also been linked to League Two Carlisle’s Jarrad Branthwaite.

Given how high Upamecano rates on the transfer charts, it will be difficult to land him this winter. He is wanted by a host of European outfits and is priced at over £50m. Nathan Ake is strongly tipped to head back to Chelsea due to the £40m buy-back clause they inserted during his sale to Bournemouth.
