Arsenal defender, David Luiz is reportedly a target for Lazio.

The Gunners only have him on a contract until the end of this season.

Mikel Arteta has Luiz pegged as an important member of his squad but there have been no talks of an extension. In his two years at North London, the Brazilian has featured heavily under both managers – Unai Emery and Arteta.

He is currently nursing a knee injury and could miss the rest of the campaign. He is due to turn 34 this April and Lazio want to sign him as a free agent. Arteta previously hinted at plans of keeping Luiz as a player plus coach. The manager believes Luiz could succeed in the line of coaching after his playing career gets over.

However, Luiz’s playing days are not quite over yet. As seen from his Arsenal career, the former Blues man has impressive fitness levels. He could easily play a few more years in the Serie A, a league that cherishes experienced talent.

Arsenal have a handful of options all ready to replace Luiz at the end of this season. William Salib and Dinos Mavropanos are due to return from their loan spells, having impressed plenty this season. Rob Holding and Calum Chambers have also built up a strong reputation under Arteta.
