Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman to replace Petr Cech next season. The former Czech Republic international has already confirmed that he will retire at the end of the current season, bringing the curtains down on an illustrious career between the crossbars after plying his trade for big-name clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal.
According to the Mirror, the 22-year-old player has been tracked by the Gunners to come into the side as the deputy for the current number one Bernd Leno. Woodman, who turned 22 earlier this month, was part of England’s Under-20 World Cup winning side in 2017 and played in all three of Newcastle’s FA Cup matches this season.
With his contract ending this season, the Newcastle United custodian might be on his way out of the club next summer, which means that Arsenal could sign him on a free transfer next summer. The Newcastle United shot-stopper has enjoyed loan spells at Hartlepool, Crawley, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen and could be a viable backup for Leno in the Arsenal lineup.
