Rio Ferdinand has urged Gareth Southgate to keep pushing through youngsters into the England national team set up including Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson.

The youngster has been impressive for Arsenal this season with his limited opportunities as he has mostly played in cup competitions domestically and in Europe. However, England boss Gareth Southgate recently admitted that his style of management is inspired by Ferguson’s habit of pumping in young blood to the team.

Hence former English defender Rio Ferdinand has asked the national team boss to keep trying new young players to play for their country including Reiss Nelson who has the potential to become a world beater.

Asked if this is the most promising England team he can remember, the former Three Lions defender Ferdinand told SunSport: “Yeah, because of the youngsters. Southgate gets it, the excitement and pride it gives to fans to see young players in their team. There’s huge potential there.”

With Bulgaria and Kosovo completing that group, Rio can see opportunities for more blooding of youngsters. He explained: “As well as Hudson-Odoi and Sancho, I want to see Phil Foden play. Everyone’s talking about him. Same with Reiss Nelson.”
