Arsenal fancy Martinelli to play the No. 9 role after Jesus's injury

Gabrielle Martinelli, an Arsenal forward, “could play” through the middle in place of the hurt Gabriel Jesus.

After a stellar start to the season, the Gunners are currently sitting pretty atop the Premier League standings, but they may now face a difficult few months without their star striker.

Jesus’ World Cup campaign was cut short when he suffered a knee injury during Brazil’s 1-0 loss to Cameroon in their last Group G match. The 25-year-old might miss up to three months of action since he needs surgery to repair the issue, which could prevent him from playing until March.

Jesus’ need for surgery has now been verified, which is bad news for everyone connected to the north London band. It’s also rumoured that the Arsenal management is still unsure on whether to enter the transfer market once more in January to replace Jesus.

Mikel Arteta’s only other logical choice up front is Eddie Nketiah, despite Martinelli’s prior experience playing there.

Martinelli has been in excellent form for Arsenal this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions and contributing two goals and five assists. The £47,000-per-week, age 21 player has played as a striker 14 times but has spent the majority of his senior career on the left flank.
