Reiss Nelson’s deal extension talks have started at Arsenal

Nelson could leave the Emirates Stadium as a free agent when his contract with the Gunners expires this summer due to interest from foreign teams. The 23-year-old played 21 league games for Eredivisie powerhouse Feyenoord Rotterdam while on loan last season, contributing two goals and four assists to the Dutch team’s third-place result.

The Englishman hasn’t played much for the Gunners since rejoining Mikel Arteta’s team, but he excelled in last month’s 3-2 victory over Bournemouth. Nelson only entered the game for the final 20 minutes, but he still contributed a goal and an assist to the Gunners’ incredible comeback win over the Cherries.

For Arteta’s title-chasing team this season, he has yet to make a single start, but in just four games, he has already registered an amazing three goals and two assists. In the hierarchy of players, Nelson is far behind Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, and January addition Leandro Trossard.

Arsenal is still interested in retaining the young player who advanced through their academy, despite the fact that his playing time hasn’t exactly been stellar this season. Nelson has shown he can be a solid option for Arteta off the bench and during injuries, and he is apparently open to staying in North London. As his tenacious side pushes ahead of a first Premier League victory in nearly ten years, the Spanish manager will need all the support he can get.

The Gunners maintained their eight-point lead over Manchester City at the summit of the table despite having played one more game after back-to-back 4-1 victories over Crystal Palace and Leeds United. With only nine games remaining, Arsenal will do well to maintain their composure and see the challenge through to completion, particularly without the distraction of European football.
