Mikel Arteta expects more from Willian.
The Brazilian scored his first goal for Arsenal in his 37th appearance for them against West Bromwich Albion.
The Gunners ensured a Premier League exit for The Baggies with a 3-1 win at the Emirates. Willian wrapped up the night with a curled free-kick past Sam Johnstone. He is not particularly popular amongst the Arsenal fans but him scoring is a step in the right direction.
“Willi, we have to [demand high standards] because he’s done it in the past and we have to demand it much more,” the Gunners boss told BT Sport.
Arteta continued, “Willian has done it in the past. That’s the big difference. He’s done it for many years and achieved big things in the game. Somehow this season we haven’t managed to get the best out of him.
“It’s true that he had some spells that we could see highlights of things he can do and today was a good example of that.”
Arsenal sit ninth in the table now with almost no chance of claiming European football for next term. Amongst the number of departure expected in the summer, could Willian be one of them?
