Arsenal have made a deal on personal terms with Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho to get him on loan.
The 28 year old winger is to embark on a journey back to the Catalan club but Barcelona do not want him any longer. However, Arsenal certainly does. Barcelona signed Countinho in 2018 but he spent the 2019-20 season at Bayern Munich on loan. Bayern have the option of retaining him permanently for €120 million this summer as well, although it’s unclear whether that will happen or not.
Barcelona would rather sell him, but a better option financially might be giving him out on loan again. According to Catalan Sport, Coutinho is in agreement with Arsenal personally to join the Gunners on loan this season with an option to buy after the loan period is over, just like with Bayern.
Coutinho is a former Liverpool star and Klopp revealed how to unleash his potential last August.
“He played his favourite position ten with us relatively seldom, he can play a great eight and a really great left wing”, Reds boss Klopp told Kicker.
“Because he is “strong enough in small spaces, but also absolutely fast enough for large spaces.
“Since Alessandro del Piero, who fired the balls into the corner from similar positions, I have not seen anyone do the same thing in this one Frequency, pulling inward from the left in closing actions.”
Maybe this will come handy to Mikel Arteta!
