Ousseynou Ba certainly left an impression on two Premier League outfits, Arsenal and Wolves, after impressing against both in the Europa League.
Ba’s heroics saw Olympiakos beat the Gunners 2-1 at the Emirates and progress to the round of 16. He was previously linked with Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.
The interesting part is Ba’s representatives are none other than the ones who also work for Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding – Stellar Group. Reports suggest that the defender could head over to North London for around €20m.
At 24 years old and coming from the Greek top division, that might be a fair amount. Ba is a physical specimen – incredibly strong in the air, relatively fast and capable of playing the ball out from the back. His current deal with Olympiakos is due to run until June 2023.
Arsenal are currently looking at cheaper options in defence after the Coronavirus pandemic hit their coffers. Their transfer budget is bound to take a massive hit which might rule out names like Dayot Upamecano or John Stones. That is why they have drawn links with several players from lesser-known teams or from teams playing outside of the European top five leagues.
The Gunners already have a lot of figures at centre-back but none of them stand out with natural leadership abilities. Mikel Arteta might have a real task in clearing out some of the names before bringing in anybody new. The recouped funds will also go a long way in being able to sign one of their top targets.
