Arsenal Interested In Signing 26-Year-Old Ajax Left-Back

The Daily Mail claims that Arsenal are strongly considering a move for Ajax left-back, Nicolas Tagliafico.

Despite the club’s desperate needs of a centre-back signing for some reason the Gunners continue to get linked with quite a few left-backs. Unai Emery certainly wants to strengthen the position with neither Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac laying their claim on a guaranteed starting spot.

Monreal turned 33 last month and Kolasinac has struggled to adapt to his defensive responsibilities in the Premier League. Another report claims that Barcelona might be interested in Monreal as a backup option behind Jordi Alba which could potentially open up a spot for Tagliafico’s arrival.

The Ajax man is still in his debut season with the Eredivisie outfit and has already established himself as a starting fullback with 30 appearances, 5 goals and 5 assists so far.

At 26 years old, he also has 12 caps for the Argentina national side and was a part of the 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

He definitely fits into the bill of modern-day fullbacks but it is unclear whether he would be an immediate upgrade to either of the two at Arsenal.

It is distinctly clear that Emery will have to make reinforcements next season but spending a huge chunk of what already is a very small transfer budget on Tagliafico seems unnecessary.
