Leeds United on Sunday, had hoped to recruit Cody Gakpo in January.
The two teams attempted to reach a deal during the summer, but ran out of time. Those conversations apparently proceeded with an eye toward a January contract, despite the player’s dissatisfaction with the move.
However, as the season has progressed, Gakpo’s play has led to speculations that he is no longer interested in a move to Leeds, preferring to join a bigger team.
Erling Haaland came in the Premier League this summer and instantly demolished every ‘needs time to settle’ story that has ever been constructed.
Gakpo, meanwhile, has nine goals and six assists in nine Eredivisie games. In total, he has 13 goals and 10 assists in 17 games this season, when all competitions are included.
That’s one goal or assist every hour and a half. Arsenal are still linked to Gakpo, but it’s unclear if this is due to information they have or the rumours that have circulated since the beginning of the year.
The midfielder is now worth roughly £31.5 million after signing a new contract with PSV in January, after ties with Arsenal had faded.
Moreover, despite their purported interest in the athlete, Arsenal reportedly passed down the opportunity to sign him in the summer.
