David Moyes, the manager of West Ham United, recently acknowledged that the team is prepared for life with and without star midfielder Declan Rice in 2019. This information comes amid growing rumours that the English international could join Arsenal this summer.
Rice has recently been in outstanding form as West Ham’s fortunes alter. With goals in vital victories over KAA Gent and Bournemouth and a performance that earned him man of the match honours against Arsenal, the Hammers were able to move six points above the Premier League relegation zone and into the semifinals of the Europa Conference League.
West Ham appears to be accepting the possibility that Rice, 24, may be leaving the London Stadium soon, as it is anticipated that Rice will be transferred during the summer transfer window. The club is reportedly willing to ‘play hardball’ over his transfer value because his contract is entering its last two years. A price of approximately £100m has frequently been mentioned. Although Moyes has traditionally shied away from addressing Rice’s future outside of the transfer market, the West Ham manager recently recognised the value of the midfielder. When questioned about preparations for the upcoming season, Moyes responded, “Yeah, absolutely.
Any club that didn’t have him would miss him, and we would absolutely miss him as well because he is such an important part of our team. In addition, Moyes voiced his hope that Rice would see West Ham as the best fit for his career and that, in the event that no other team offered a deal that satisfied them, Rice could continue to play at the London Stadium. I hope we can keep getting the best out of Dec, but the club has made it pretty clear, he continued.
But Rice has been vocal about wanting to play Champions League football, and his excellent showings at the World Cup in Qatar further demonstrated his fitness for the toughest levels of competition. Rice’s continuous commitment to the game has impressed Moyes despite the prospect of his leaving West Ham: “No question marks can be posed about Declan Rice. He interacts with the crowd during celebrations, chats to them, and is present with them. In the locker room, he is the team’s leader.
