Bayern Munich are open to letting Jerome Boateng walk for £12.8m.
Arsenal have been heavily linked to the German defender post their injury crisis at centre-back.
Calum Chambers went down to a knee injury against Manchester United and have been ruled out for the next 9 months. That leaves Mikel Arteta with just David Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos as his options at centre-back.
Konstantinos Mavropanos has not fully developed and Rob Holding continues to fight injury problems. There is no need to bring up why Shkodran Mustafi is simply not fit to appear in the position. And this is just to the addition of Kieran Tierney missing out at left-back for the next three months.
Arsenal’s defence is a major issue and despite recent improvements in performance, adding an able central figure is a must. Boateng boasts of top-flight experience with loads of trophies under his belt. He has represented Bayern Munich and Germany during their most prosperous periods and was once even recognized as a top centre-half in the world.
There is no doubt his performance levels have dropped due to age but he still commands a solid defensive rigidity that most centre-backs don’t have these days. Arsenal are also interested in RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano. The problem is his transfer will cost them upwards of £50m and it is unclear if the Gunners will provide Arteta that sort of backing this soon.
