Key Arsenal defender going to miss Aston Villa clash due to injury

Arsenal is on the verge of shattering a 122-year-old record for consecutive clean sheets because of their outstanding defensive start, even though their skill on set pieces is dominating the news. The Gunners have eight straight clean sheets in all competitions.

The record was initially set between April and October of 1903, but if Arsenal defeats Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday, it might be matched. They started their current run on October 1st against Olympiacos. In six games during the month of October, Arsenal did not let up a single goal.

From David Raya to Gabriel and William Saliba, the league’s top defensive unit is paying off in a number of ways. As manager Mikel Arteta tries to maintain his options, even depth players like Myles Lewis-Skelly, Piero Hincapié, and Ben White are making an impact.

On Saturday, November 8, the Gunners may achieve a record of nine consecutive clean sheets against Sunderland if they defeat Slavia Prague.

2025–26 Arsenal Defensive Record

In their 15 Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup games thus far this season, Arsenal have preserved 12 clean sheets. In a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on September 28, they let up their final goal.

Prior to it, the two opportunities to defeat Raya were a goal from Erling Haaland in a 1-1 draw with Manchester City and a spectacular free kick from Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool in a defeat at Anfield. The latter counts as their sole defeat so far this season.

Arsenal and Inter are the only two clubs in the Champions League who have not given up a goal in three games. In January, the Gunners will play the Italian powerhouses. Now that Arteta’s squad has won seven straight games without giving up a goal, they are tied with George Graham’s team from 1987, which won the same amount of games without letting the opposition score.

Arsenal will tie the club record for consecutive victories without conceding, which was achieved in 1903, 122 years ago, if they defeat Slavia Prague on Tuesday and maintain another clean sheet.
