Arsenal Players Have Voted On Club Captaincy - Rob Holding

Arsenal players have voted on who will become the club captain for the 2019/20 season, revealed Rob Holding.

The English defender made his comeback from injury on Tuesday night, scoring in Arsenal’s 5-0 fourth round League Cup win against Nottingham Forest.

There has been a lot of chaos regarding who will wear the captain’s armband for the Gunners. Last year’s picks of Nacho Monreal, Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey – have headed out of the Emirates doors, one way or the other.

Unai Emery previously notified the fans that he will pick his leader once the transfer window closes. So far, we have mostly seen Granit Xhaka lead the team into the pitch but judging by his recent performances, he might not get to enjoy that privilege for long.

“We had a vote the other week so we’ll see what happens and see who gets named,” Holding said. “[We had to] write names down and then give them to the manager. He will go through them obviously with his input and then we’ll see what happens.

“I don’t know [when the decision will be announced]. I think it will be in the next couple of days or weeks. I have no idea. If I get it, then I’ll be more than happy and honoured to do it.”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang showcased his leadership abilities this month when he sacrificed a crucial penalty kick in the 3-2 comeback win against Aston Villa. The 30-year-old handed the ball to Nicolas Pepe, to help him get his first goal for the club and gain significant confidence.
