Arsenal are ready to launch an opening bid for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with sporting director Andrea Berta pushing hard to bring the Brazilian to the Emirates Stadium.
Gunners Ready £43m Opening Offer for Brazil Star Ederson
Berta, who joined Arsenal earlier this season, is a known admirer of the 26-year-old.
The club now believe a deal is within reach, with Atalanta placing a £43 million price tag on their star player.
Ederson has won three caps for Brazil and has impressed in Serie A with his energy, ball-winning ability, and composure in possession. Arsenal view him as an ideal addition to strengthen their midfield options ahead of next season.
The move comes as current midfielder Martin Zubimendi faces growing scrutiny.
Pundit Gary Neville recently criticized the Spaniard’s performances, and manager Mikel Arteta has echoed those concerns by dropping Zubimendi for key matches, including the Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.
Teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly has stepped in and earned praise, but Arsenal remain determined to add more quality in the middle of the park.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Arsenal are now “assessing the financial package” needed to tempt Atalanta into selling. The Gunners plan to submit an official offer soon.
However, they face stiff competition. Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Manchester City are all tracking the Brazilian midfielder.
While Arsenal focus on their summer plans, the immediate task is a thrilling end to the season.
Arteta’s side sit three wins away from the Premier League title – against West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace. They also face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 30.
Responding to Wayne Rooney’s claim that Arsenal over-celebrated reaching the final, Arteta said:
“My concentration, my focus, and my energy was then on West Ham. We have to stay present and show the same level of hunger.”
For now, Arsenal are moving quickly behind the scenes. An opening bid for Ederson could arrive within days.
