Arsenal Reignite Interest In Franck Kessie

News sources from Italy claim Arsenal are back to scouting AC Milan’s Franck Kessie.

The defensive midfielder was targetted by former Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger when he was still in charge.

Mikel Arteta is keen on adding reinforcements this January but is constrained by a lack of funds. Arsenal broke their transfer record to sign Nicolas Pepe last summer, allowing them to only make loan signings midway through the campaign.

Kessie is a player who might just fit into Arteta’s system. We have seen how the Spaniard has utilized Lucas Torreira’s talents since taking over and how successful he has been with it. Torreira has flourished back in his original position, sitting deep in midfield and shielding the backline with his timed interceptions and challenges.

However, the problem is there is no immediate backup for the Uruguay international. Matteo Guendouzi is still fairly inexperienced and is a different type of midfielder. He still needs to learn his defensive responsibilities and how to remain disciplined with his positioning. Kessie could come and provide some much-needed cover to the position or could even partner Torreira in the midfield pivot when Granit Xhaka needs a breather.

The report claims that Kessie could be acquired for as low as £21m. He has been inconsistent in the AC Milan ranks but with the right coaching, could become a real asset at North London.
