Arsenal star lifts lid on rumours of rift between Mesut Ozil and Unai Emery

The Playmaker was absent from the squad against West Ham United

Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid for a reported fee of £42.5 million, signing a five-year deal in 2013. He has been a mainstay in the midfield since joining the club and has won 3 FA Cups.

The 29 year old has had a difficult summer after feeling persecuted for Germany’s early exit from the World Cup where his meeting with Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was cited as a reason for the poor performances.

He even decided to retire from International football and was criticized by several senior officials in the German Football Association.

The playmaker featured in both the club’s opening Premier League games against Chelsea and Manchester City. They lost both the matches as struggled to make any impact.

The German was surprisingly left out of the squad against West Ham United as the London Outfit won their first match of this season. Rumours emerged that he had a training ground row with manager Unai Emery and that was the reason of his absence from the squad.

However, the Spaniard dismissed the speculations and claimed the player missed the game due to illness.

Club’s summer signing Matteo Guendouzi has also dismissed the news and insisted that there is no tension at Arsenal.

“No, there are never tensions,” the 19-year-old midfielder told RMC Sport as quoted by Daily Star.

“We know what we are capable of, we have a great squad, a great staff. It’s a great club, we know we can do great things this year.

“Of course we lost the first two matches but there were very positive things in those first two matches, it should be noted.

“So now we won against West Ham and maybe we showed people who didn’t believe in us that we will be there this season and you have to count on us until the end of the season.”
