Arsenal suffer yet another blow to their January transfer plans as reports claim that James Rodriguez is set to continue for Bayern Munich for the remainder of the season.
Previous reports claimed that the Colombian was up for a switch this winter with the Bavarians’ head coach, Niko Kovac even pointing out Rodriguez’s uncertain future at the Allianz Arena. However, ESPN FC claims that the midfielder is happy in Germany and wants to play out the rest of his loan spell away from Real Madrid.
Munich have already shelled out €13m to temporarily sign him for two seasons and they will have to pay a further €42m to keep him beyond the 2018/19 campaign.
Arsenal’s plans of signing the highly talented attacking midfielder for as little as €3m has seemingly been squashed. Unai Emery now might have to centre all his energy towards Denis Suarez of Barcelona and Gelson Martins of Atletico Madrid.
The Gunners are in a fishy spot with Mesut Ozil not featuring on the pitch in recent times. The German’s absence could have been filled up by Rodriguez, who operates with a similar skill set.
It is still unclear whether there has been a dispute between Ozil and Emery but the current scenario predicts there is some tension between the two parties. The 30-year-old was benched for the 2-0 win over Chelsea last weekend and was completely excluded from the squad in the 1-0 away loss to West Ham earlier.
