The latest reports state that Arsenal are competing against West Ham United for Villareal midfielder, Pablo Fornals.
The Yellow Submarines’ manager, Luis Garcia has admitted that other clubs have expressed interest in the 22-year-old and Spanish news outlet, Sport recognizes the Gunners to be one of them.
Barcelona were reportedly also monitoring Fornals but they are understandably out of the race after finalising the £66m transfer of Frenkie De Jong from Ajax. Arsenal, on the other hand, have struck out on their plans to sign Denis Suarez from the Blaugrana this January with Aaron Ramsey destined to leave the Emirates for Juventus next summer.
Unai Emery is desperately searching for the Welshman’s replacement but so far has struggled to find one. The Gunners are struggling to keep up with the massive wage bill back at North London and has therefore sanctioned no financial leverage to move players mid-season.
Fornals is reported to have a release clause worth £28.5 m in his contract which is set to run till the summer of 2022. He has registered 3 goals and 4 assists in 29 appearances for Villareal this season.
He primarily likes to operate from the attacking midfield position like Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan but can serve from the wings as well. Fornals has also been capped twice for the Spain senior national team and 10 times for the U21s.
