Arsenal told to invest in their academy to nurture young talents.

Several Premier League clubs have invested heavily in their academy and have excelled in monetising the players they’ve nurtured.

Investing in the academy is one of the many ways Arsenal can improve their economics as it positively affects the club’s finances.

Arsenal have spent in the north of £200 million this summer on four new signings.

Chelsea have spent enormous money in the last two summers but they have generated significant fees from player sales and it helped balance their books.

Similarly, Man City’s youth academy has turned out to be immensely profitable for the club.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire has urged Arsenal to emulate rivals to enhance their investment in their own academy system.

He told Football Insider: “From the perspective of player sales, Arsenal will be okay this summer – I think they do have some sellable assets which will attract interest.

“I think what they’ve got to do now is replicate the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, both of whom are absolutely superb at recruiting players into their academy.

“A small fraction of those will go on to play first-team football, and the majority will be used as sellable inventory.”
