Eberechi Eze faces six weeks on the sidelines with injury

Arsenal will cope without Eberechi Eze for at least the first half of April after a calf injury ruled the attacking midfielder out for four to six weeks.

Arsenal Lose Eberechi Eze Until at Least Mid-April

The setback also forces the 27-year-old to withdraw from England duty during the international break.

Eze initially appeared to escape serious harm when he picked up a knock during the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Bayer Leverkusen on March 18.

However, his unexpected absence from the Carabao Cup final squad against Manchester City raised concerns.

Sources now confirm the calf issue is more severe than first anticipated, with the BBC among those reporting the extended layoff.

The injury compounds a difficult season of squad management for manager Mikel Arteta. Arsenal’s attacking midfield options now look particularly stretched.

Captain Martin Ødegaard continues to recover from a knee problem, while Mikel Merino faces a spell on the sidelines until May with a foot injury.

The club’s decision to send Ethan Nwaneri on loan to Marseille, rather than retain the teenager for cover, now appears to have backfired.

Arteta has experimented with alternatives in the number ten role, shifting Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz into central areas.

Saka started there in a flat performance against Wolves, while Havertz operated in the position during a 4-0 win over Leeds United.

Neither option provides the same unique qualities as Eze, who combines creativity, ball-striking and flair to unlock deep-lying defences.

The former Crystal Palace man had begun to find his rhythm, delivering eye-catching strikes against Tottenham and Leverkusen while posing a consistent threat against Everton. His absence removes a key source of spontaneous attacking inspiration from Arteta’s system.

A forgiving fixture list may offer Arsenal some respite. The Gunners face Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals and take on Sporting in the Champions League, with the second leg at the Emirates.

Bournemouth visit North London for the first Premier League game in April. If Eze’s recovery progresses as hoped, he could return in time for the trip to Manchester City on April 18.

Arsenal are planning to make a move to sign Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall

Arsenal Predicted Line Up vs Newcastle United Starting XI!

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal is apparently considering a third Newcastle player in addition to Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali before the summer transfer market opens. Later this year, the Gunners will look to bolster their roster in an effort to improve upon their current performance.

With only a few weeks left in the season, Arsenal is participating in three different tournaments, and there’s a good possibility they will finish the year with one or two trophies. Newcastle may be among the teams that suffer as a result of Mikel Arteta’s team’s success this season, which might draw the top players from across the globe.

Arsenal is among the teams expressing interest in acquiring Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall before the summer transfer window, according to a report from TEAMtalk. The English defender is becoming one of Europe’s top left-backs, and the Magpies have little interest in letting him go.

Given that his contract is set to expire in 2029 and Newcastle has little intention of letting him go, Hall—who has been called “tremendous”—may find it challenging to leave the team if he is eager to do so.

Arsenal plot swoop to sign Newcastle’s Lewis Hall

Manchester United and Liverpool are also in the running, and Newcastle has no plans to let him go because his current contract expires in 2029. Thus, in order to entice Hall, who Transfermarkt values at almost £30 million, to the Emirates Stadium this summer, Arsenal will need to overcome a number of challenges. The 21-year-old has made a name for himself as a vital starter after relocating from Chelsea to St. James’ Park. This season, he has contributed three goals and kept four clean sheets in all competitions.

Thomas Tuchel has called up the defender to the England national squad for this month’s international matches after being impressed. He can play through passes between the lines, dribble past opponents’ defenders in confined spaces, and contribute effectively on defence.

Hall is an exceptionally gifted athlete with the capacity to excel. Therefore, if Arsenal were to get him, he would be a great addition. It would be intriguing to observe, though, whether the North London team ultimately takes a firm step to acquire his services in the off-season.

Ben White returns to England squad for first time since 2022 World Cup exit

Arsenal defender Ben White has ended his self-imposed exile from the England national team, earning his first call-up since the 2022 World Cup.

White Back in England Fold After Ending Southgate-Era Absence

The 28-year-old right-back rejoins the squad for the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley Stadium.

White’s return marks a significant shift in his international career after he left England’s camp in Qatar during the 2022 World Cup due to personal reasons.

Following that departure, White made himself unavailable for selection for the remainder of Gareth Southgate’s tenure as manager.

However, new head coach Thomas Tuchel has now brought the defender back into the fold.

White’s recall comes after Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah withdrew from Tuchel’s 35-man provisional squad because of an injury.

The Arsenal star has previously earned four senior caps for England, with his last appearance coming in a 3-0 victory over Ivory Coast in March 2022.

The England squad will face Uruguay on Friday at Wembley, followed by a second friendly against Japan on March 31.

Despite White’s inclusion, Tuchel has left out Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also operates primarily as a right-back. The selection suggests a competitive battle for defensive places under the new manager.

The squad has seen further changes elsewhere. Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, who plays alongside White at Arsenal, has also withdrawn from the camp.

Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes replaces Eze. The 28-year-old Barnes will look to add to his solitary England cap, which he earned six years ago.

White’s return to international duty signals a fresh start for the defender under the new management team, ending a prolonged period of absence that stretched across the final years of the previous regime.

Jamie Carragher blames Kepa Arrizabalaga after Arsenal’s Carabao Cup final defeat

Mikel Arteta seeks to defuse tensions with Pep Guardiola

Jamie Carragher launched a scathing attack on Mikel Arteta’s decision to start Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal following Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Carragher Slams Arteta’s ‘Loyalty’ to Kepa: ‘He Owes the Fans, Not the Goalkeeper’

The former Liverpool defender did not hold back in his criticism after the Spaniard’s costly error handed City the opening goal at Wembley.

Arrizabalaga, who has served as Arsenal’s cup goalkeeper this season, gifted possession to Nico O’Reilly, who scored easily to break the deadlock.

Carragher labelled the mistake an “absolute shocker” and insisted Arteta should have selected first-choice goalkeeper David Raya for the final.

He argued that the Arsenal manager’s loyalty to his second-choice shot-stopper undermined the team’s best chance of ending a long wait for silverware.

“Mikel Arteta does not owe Kepa anything. He owes Arsenal fans the best possible chance of winning a trophy,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“The goalkeeper comes to the club knowing he is second-choice. When it comes to the final, that has to change. This team needs to get over the line.”

Carragher contrasted the situation with Manchester City’s handling of James Trafford, stating that Pep Guardiola’s side had less pressure given their history of winning the competition.

He also pointed to Liverpool’s use of Caoimhin Kelleher as a different scenario, where the club wanted to keep the player.

“Kepa is not good enough for the top level. We saw that at Chelsea,” Carragher added.

He also suggested that Arsenal’s squad would have preferred Raya to start, calling the goalkeeper one of the team’s best players this season alongside Declan Rice and Gabriel.

Despite the criticism, Arteta stood by his decision after the match.

“I would do it again. Kepa deserved to play and has been phenomenal for us,” he said. “Errors are part of football.”

The defeat ends Arsenal’s hopes of a domestic quadruple, though they remain nine points clear at the top of the Premier League as they chase a first league title in 22 years.

Mikel Arteta defended his choice to start backup custodian Kepa Arrizabalaga against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, arguing that benching the Spaniard would not have been “fair”. Nico O’Reilly, a City academy product, scored two goals in the second half to end Arsenal’s hopes of an unprecedented quadruple, and Kepa was largely to blame for the first goal at Wembley.

After joining Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer, Kepa has already participated in every domestic cup match this season, surpassing fan favourite and first-choice custodian David Raya. The Arsenal manager stated, “I understand [the focus on the decision], but I have to do what I feel is right, honest, and fair.” “Kepa has participated in every competition game, and I believe it would have been extremely unfair for him and the squad to take a different approach.

“He helped us get all the way here [to the final], and we are led by what we have seen and what he has done in the tournament. That’s all. I think it’s the correct thing to do. Football mistakes are inevitable, and today’s incident occurred at a critical juncture.

Kepa’s gesture at full-time says it all as Gunners pay price for his blunder

In the Carabao Cup final, Kepa has experienced several setbacks. He was a member of the Chelsea squad that lost to Guardiola’s team on penalties in 2019, and he had another penalty-related loss in 2022, this time against Liverpool.

With Raya being the clear first choice at the Emirates, the former Blue was forced to take a reserve role after moving to Arsenal in the summer. Just before giving up the first goal, he was lucky to avoid a more severe penalty.

He made a mistake and had to draw back Jeremy Doku after advancing for a long delivery. Instead of being sent off, he was given a yellow card. According to former Gunner Ian Wright, Kepa’s error “has cost us” on Sky Sports.

Arteta has continued to have faith in the Spanish custodian despite the fact that he has made fewer than ten appearances this season. In a similar vein, City continued to use their backup custodian, choosing Trafford over Donnarumma. Arsenal have previously lost the Carabao Cup final four times in a row. In 2018, they lost to City.

Mikel Arteta has made his choice. The Arsenal manager will stick with Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley.

Arteta Trusts Kepa to Start in Goal for Carabao Cup Final

The decision ends weeks of debate among fans and pundits. Kepa has started every domestic cup match for Arsenal this season.

He played all five Carabao Cup games and three FA Cup ties. However, David Raya’s recent brilliant form for the club’s Premier League campaign created a major talking point ahead of the final.

According to The Athletic, sources with knowledge of the club’s plans indicate Arteta will remain loyal to the Spaniard who helped the team reach this stage.

Arteta kept his cards close to his chest during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

When a reporter asked directly if Kepa would keep his place, the manager said: “We will see how everybody is [after training on Saturday], and then we’ll make the decision.”

He dismissed the idea that changing goalkeepers causes disruption. “No, because we don’t have that feeling amongst players,” Arteta explained.

“We really trust our teammates and in that case especially when you work with the quality of the keepers that we have right now at Arsenal.

They played at the highest level with other clubs and they have the experience to deal with any kind of situation.”

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson, who won the League Cup with the club in 1993, agrees with the manager’s approach.

“Kepa has been first-choice in the Carabao Cup, and I think they should stick with him,” Merson said.

“It’s only fair because he played well and got you to this stage.”

The pundit admitted Raya’s quality makes the call tough.

“But I must admit, Raya is world-class. The saves he made against Everton and Leverkusen were absolutely phenomenal.”

Despite that, Merson believes loyalty should win out. “However, if I were the manager, I would still stick to my principles and choose Kepa as the keeper for the final.

He’s not let the team down in this competition and deserves to start.”

Arteta now backs his cup goalkeeper to deliver silverware against the Premier League champions at Wembley.

Mikel Arteta has urged Arsenal supporters to attack the final against Man City

When Arsenal takes on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, Mikel Arteta has urged fans to attack the final with his team.

The Premier League leaders are still in the running for four trophies this season, but it has been over six years since they last took home a significant trophy, when Arteta won the FA Cup during his first season in command.

The manager of Arsenal stated, “It adds more necessity when you have been in this position and [gone] years without winning a trophy, but it also adds more drive because you really want it and that’s something we have.” “We’ve been working to accomplish that for a while, and I know we have the chance to do it. It’s really important for us.”

Arteta can count on a lot more commotion this time around after the Covid-19 outbreak prevented fans from attending Arsenal’s 2020 FA Cup triumph at Wembley. When asked about a message for the supporters, he responded, “Be with us; push for every ball, for every action.” “Attack the final together and demonstrate how much we truly want it.”

Arteta reveals what Arsenal squad must do to beat Man City

The Gunners might finally break their trophy drought, which has creeped up on them despite their fierce title-chasing streak, after nearly six years since the last significant prize. However, Arteta thinks his squad has learnt a lot over that period, and the expertise they have acquired allows them to defend their current position.

“At the end, it’s whether you win the trophy or not, so it’s one of the defining moments,” Arteta said. And once you reach the final, that’s what matters most.

Bukayo Saka, an unused replacement at the time but a certain starter this weekend, was the only member of the FA Cup winning team. To win their first significant title in the red and white, Arteta thinks his team need to “attack the trophy.”

“Our players must perform at this level every day, but when it comes to the pivotal moments and when it comes to attacking the trophy and taking it home,” he stated.

Arsenal are showing interest in Barcelona’s defensive star Pau Cubarsí

Blow for Arsenal as Roberto set to extend contract with Barcelona

Barcelona wonderkid Pau Cubarsi has a €500 million release clause in his current contract at Camp Nou, and Arsenal is apparently one of the teams interested in signing him. Since his debut under former manager Xavi two years ago, the 19-year-old Spain international has been a fixture in the Barcelona first squad and is already regarded as one of the greatest center defenders in the world of football.

Since making his Barcelona debut against Unionistas de Salamanca in January 2024, Cubarsi has participated in more over 100 senior games. Hansi Flick’s team intends to provide him with an upgraded contract soon, as his current one is set to expire in 2029.

According to a startling revelation from CaughtOffside, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester City are all monitoring the teenager’s position, but the Blaugrana have no intention of letting him leave Camp Nou.

Although a move is reportedly unlikely to happen this summer, all four teams are well-known fans of the 19-year-old and will be prepared to act if Barcelona is able to reach an agreement with the defender to extend his contract.

Arsenal weighing up move to sign world-class Barcelona star

Barcelona, for their part, seem at ease. Cubarsí’s future seems certain to be in Catalonia, with intentions to reward his growth with a better deal. The hint that he may wear the captain’s armband in the future is much more telling.

Seldom are such actions symbolic. They are tactical and intended to serve as a player’s emotional and professional anchor. Cubarsí is a perfect fit for a team that has always prized continuity and identity.

Football, however, has a tendency to change swiftly. Interested teams have not gotten in touch with the player or his representation, but if contract talks continue to stagnate, things might change.

“Clubs may want to get involved and let Cubarsi know they are interested if there is any indication that he is delaying signing a new contract.”

For the time being, Cubarsí is still precisely where Barcelona wants him to be—developing, learning, and subtly becoming one of the most complete young defenders in Europe.

Gyokeres wants to join Ibrahimovic and Isak in Wembley history books

Viktor Gyokeres has set his sights on joining an exclusive group of Swedish strikers who have made their mark in the League Cup final.

Gyokeres: I Want My Name Alongside Swedish Legends After Cup Final

The Arsenal forward takes on Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday, and he knows his countrymen have a strong track record in this fixture.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice for Manchester United in their 2017 victory over Southampton, while Alexander Isak netted the decisive goal for Newcastle United against Liverpool last year.

When someone mentioned this to Gyokeres, he smiled. “Yeah, they like to do it there, no? That would be good,” he said about adding his name to that list.

The 25-year-old arrives at the final in red-hot form. He already delivered a goal and an assist in the semi-final against Chelsea, helping secure Arsenal’s place at Wembley.

But Wembley hasn’t always been kind to him. His only previous appearance at the stadium came in the 2023 Championship play-off final, when his Coventry City side faced Luton Town.

Gyokeres set up the equaliser in a 1-1 draw and created another fine chance that should have won the game. He then scored in the penalty shootout, but Coventry still lost.

That match turned out to be his last for the club before joining Sporting CP that summer.

Since moving to Portugal, Gyokeres has played in three cup finals. He scored a crucial stoppage-time penalty in the Taca de Portugal final against Benfica last season, helping Sporting win 3-1 after extra time.

He also converted a spot-kick in the Allianz Cup final against Benfica this year, though Sporting lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

His only final without a goal came in another Taca de Portugal clash with Porto, where Sporting played most of the match with 10 men.

The numbers tell an interesting story. Across four cup or play-off finals, Gyokeres has two goals and one assist in normal time, plus two more in shootouts. Yet he has only finished on the winning side once.

Sunday offers him the chance to change that. An open-play goal still eludes him in these big moments, and he will want to correct that against Manchester City.

With his country’s rich history in this competition, Gyokeres has every motivation to write his own chapter at Wembley.

Arsenal’s route to the Champions League final has become much clearer

Mikel Arteta’s standing with Arsenal board could be compromised if Kai Havertz fails

In the last seven months, Mikel Arteta’s team has frequently had to sit tight in defence of narrow leads, overwhelm opponents at corners, or grind to victory, but not this time.

The Champions League, the largest continental club competition in the game, offers a number of methods to advance to the last eight, but if you had to choose just one, there’s no better way than to do it with a swagger. And Arsenal did, with two goals of such calibre from Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze that the Bayer Leverkusen players were devastated.

They were defeated in every aspect of the match, but it was never felt more acutely than after those two goals were scored. This is a respectable Bundesliga club that has been cleverly assembled, snatched away by more affluent competitors, and then rebuilt, all while being made to appear unremarkable. Bayern Munich, who have lost 11 points in the Bundesliga this season, drew with Leverkusen at home three days prior. The guests were never present at the Emirates.

Arsenal swagger into Champions League quarter-finals

“It’s amazing how the team feels, how they go for every ball, and how passionate they are in every action,” Arteta remarked. “It’s amazing to do it every three days.”

While others, most notably City, a title contender and Sunday’s opponents in the Carabao Cup final, depart Europe, Arsenal will still have to deal with all of these games. However, Arteta’s players didn’t appear to be tired on this particular night. They got off to such a great start that Janis Blaswich, the custodian for Leverkusen, was his team’s most important player in the first half, and Arsenal should have scored more than Eze’s stunning strike in the 36th minute.

Arsenal should have scored more goals in this match, but they weren’t required to play at their best after the second. Despite a few conspicuous failures to startle a falling ball played up to him, Gyokeres, who had been bustling and frantic all evening, stepped off to thunderous ovation.

Just before the Rice goal, a Gyokeres cross had reached Piero Hincapié, but only a deft clearing by the young Englishman Jarell Quansah had stopped it. Long before the finish, Leverkusen had surrendered.
