The Spaniard will be given a budget of £50 million

Arsene Wenger has left Arsenal after 22 years reign with the club. He has won 10 major trophies with the club which includes 7 FA cups and 3 Premier League titles.

Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager of the Gunners and likely to be busy in the transfer window in order to strengthen the squad for next season. The club have endured an underwhelming campaign, finishing 6th in the league and will miss the Champions League next season.

Former PSG boss have been given only £50 million to spend this summer and it will be a no match to the big spending of rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown fears the budget will not be enough to to address defensive issues. He wants the Spaniard to manage his transfer funds carefully and choose which areas to strengthen.

Keown told the Daily Mail on the transfer dilemma facing Emery: “He has to assess whether Arsenal’s central defenders are good enough for him.

“Laurent Koscielny is out for six months, Per Mertesacker has retired, Shkodran Mustafi has had a difficult season and he also has two young defenders in Rob Holding and Calum Chambers.

“There will have to be a different message with more emphasis on defence than attack.

“It will be encouraging for Ivan Gazidis that Emery has already identified areas where he can improve the players already at Arsenal.

“With reports of only £50 million to spend, a lot of the change is going to have to take place on the training pitch.”
