Arsenal will sign Stephan Lichtsteiner on a 1 year contract

The contract will also contain an option to extend by another year

Arsenal endured an underwhelming campaign as they finished the season the trophy-less in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign. They finished 6th in the Premier League, reaching the Carabao Cup final and the Europa League semi-final.

Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager of the Gunners and expected to be very busy in the summer transfer window in order to strengthen the squad for next season.

One of the key areas the Spaniard has to resolve is the club’s defensive line, who has been criticized a lot this season.

Stephan Lichsteiner is to join Arsenal on a one-year contract when his contract expires at Juventus next month according to The Sun. It is believed the one-year contract will have an option to be extended by a further year.

Lichtsteiner joined the Serie A giants from Lazio for €10 million in 2011. He has been their mainstay in the defense and has established himself as one of the best wing-backs in the world with constant solid performances.

The 34 year old has tasted a lot of success with the Turin side, winning the domestic title in each of his seven seasons. He has scored 14 goals in 250 appearances since joining them.

He made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A champions as they won a seventh consecutive league title and fourth consecutive Coppa Italia.

The Swiss International whose contract expires next month and will be a free agent, earlier claimed that he will leave Italy as he seeks new challenge.

Hector Bellerin is the Premier League giants first choice right-back but the former Lazio ace will provide the necessary defensive experience to the team and will also provide leadership skills.

He has been named in the Switzerland World cup squad and is expected to captain them.
