The Gunners finished sixth in the Premier League last season and will miss the Champions League next season. The Spaniard has been charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.
It has been a busy transfer for the Premier League giants, as the new boss has brought in new five players, reinforcing the particular areas which needed strengthening to compete for major silverware next season.
The club have struggled defensively in the past few seasons and the Spaniard has bolster the backline by signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.
Former Gunners striker John Hartson has urged Emery to sign another centre-half before the transfer window closes.
“Going forward, they seem exciting, but Arsenal’s problem in recent years has been defensively,” Hartson exclusively told Express Sport.
“It’s that rock at the back, the commanding centre-half that Arsenal need.
“If you look at the competition, Liverpool will be right up there challenging Man City, Man Utd will improve. We don’t know what’s going to happen with Chelsea, three of their top names are linked with moves, [Eden] Hazard, [Thibaut] Courtois and Willian.
“There’s a lot of competition – and they are all chasing City.
“Emery needs time to integrate all these players into the squad and his line-up. I don’t think the fans see it that way.
“They’ve signed Sokratis from Dortmund but he doesn’t have bundles of experience at the top level.
“They’ve made defensive signings but they still need to strengthen. They need to improve at the back if they are going to challenge for the title.”
