Arsenal have shortlisted Athletic Bilbao defender, Unai Nunez for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Bringing in defensive reinforcements is still a priority for Mikel Arteta, especially in the centre-back position.
Arsenal currently have eight options in the position but hardly on them will cut it under Arteta. That means several names could face the chop in order to make way for a prolific signing. Nunez has definitely impressed in the La Liga, making 18 appearances this season and helping Athletic make it into the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
Nunez’s contributions even earned him a national team callup in September and allowed him to make his debut. At 23, he has shown the potential to be a world-beater but consistency has not been his forte. That is why he has not been able to tie down a regular spot at Athletic, something he might at North London.
Nunez has helped his team keep two clean sheets in his 10 starts in the league. Both were against Barcelona and Real Madrid which is why it generated even more attention. Athletic are trying to sign the player to a new deal. His contract is due to run until 2023 but the Spanish outfit want to add two more years to his deal. Nevertheless, Arsenal will have to pay a hefty fee to convince Bilbao into parting ways with Nunez.
