Jurgen Klopp had high praise for Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli after the 5-5 showdown at Anfield on Wednesday.
The Brazilian forward scored twice for his side and has now racked up 7 goals in 4 starts.
He was given the nod over Alexandre Lacazette in the Carabao Cup tie and we all know why Unai Emery decided to trust the teenager completely. He is highly versatile, already has got positional sense and is terrific form at the moment.
“Sepp van den Berg played an incredible game,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com after the Reds went past Arsenal 5-4 in penalties. “That’s really difficult to deal with these guys. Martinelli’s pretty much the same age but he’s a talent of the century, he’s an incredible striker, so it’s really difficult.
“Then you have Mesut Ozil around and Willock right, who scored, by the way, a really nice one, so a team like Arsenal in a counter-attacking mood – we keep them deep, play around them, we lose the ball and then it’s really difficult.”
Martinelli only arrived at Arsenal last summer from Brazilian outfit, Ituano. He was one of the star performers amongst a bunch of youth prospects on both teams. Klopp fielded one of his own summer signings in Sep van der Berg, a 17-year-old centre-back and was greatly impressed by him.
