Wenger had suggested Arsenal had a decent chance at competing in a title race this season.
Arsene Wenger names his favourites for the Premier League title. Currently, Manchester City and Arsenal are fighting for the top spot. The Gunners are now only behind Man City in terms of the favourites for the Premier League title this season.
Speaking after Arsenal’s latest victory in the North London derby, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger suggested only one club have a better chance at winning the Premier League title this season.
“Personally I would put them just behind City,” Wenger said.
“The second-best team to have a good chance to win the [Premier League]. Man City at some stage will focus highly on the Champions League.
“We don’t know about Liverpool, but they’re already 11 points behind. 10 points behind Man City is a mountain to climb.
“Chelsea doesn’t look consistent at the moment. They have not found the confidence to contend to win the league.”
Arsenal’s early results have certainly put them in a good position to challenge at the top of the table. Mikel Arteta’s side has a one-point advantage over his old club.
Even before the Tottenham game, Wenger had suggested Arsenal had a decent chance at competing in a title race this season.
“I would say they have a good chance [of winning the league] this season because I don’t see any super dominating team,” Wenger said then. “I believe that it is a good opportunity to do it this season.
“Of course, it’s a little bit of a special season as well because you have the World Cup in the middle and you don’t know how much that will affect the performances of the individual players and of the teams.”
Pep Guardiola’s side put in a statement performance that hints they could be about to put together the type of run that’s won them so many titles in recent years.
