Arteta backing Leno to break 4-year old tradition at Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has said that Mikel Arteta has asked him to play in goal for the Premier League and the Europa League.

The decision comes as a break in system which had been put in Arsenal for quite some time now. Wenger wanted two different goalkeepers in two different positions to manage with the work load.

However, Arteta who came in a month ago to take over from Unai Emery, has started changing things at the club. He seems like an independent man whose ideologies seem to collide with that of Arsenal.

He has now made quite a few statements at the club and is adding another one to it by choosing to break the four year old tradition of playing two different goalies in two different competitions for Arsenal.

Leno seems encouraged by the manager’s decision.

“I want to play all the games, because we take this tournament seriously. It is another trophy and a chance to qualify for the Champions League,” Leno said.

“I want to play all these games and I am happy that the manager made the decision that I play the Premier League and the Europa League games as well.”
