Billionaire Regrets Not Buying Arsenal And Taking Kroenke's Place

American billionaire and owner of the NFL club, Philadelphia Eagles, Jeffrey Lurie admits that he came mighty close to buying Arsenal and he regrets not doing so.

The wealthy businessman bought the Eagles back in 1994 for $195m and had plenty of offers to purchase other sports outfits. Out of all the available ones, Arsenal was a prime option that he laments not taking up.

“I did look into buying other sport owners teams when I owned the Eagles, and I regret maybe one of them,” Lurie said. “There was probably an opportunity to be a significant owner of Arsenal.

“I wasn’t able to convince enough of the people that were possibly interested in selling at the time. But I saw it similar to the Eagles where it’s kind of a difficult stadium situation. And what if you build a new stadium and it’s right in London? I saw it as a refresh (to) energize that franchise, that team.”

There has been a lot of uproar from the Gunners fans over the way the club is being run by their current owner, Stan Kroenke. The American, who also owns another NFL outfit, the Los Angeles Rams has hardly opened up his pockets for the club’s improvement through player transfers.

Earlier reports stated that Aliko Dangote, a billionaire hailing from Nigeria, would buy the North London outfit off of Kroenke but nothing further came of it.
