In light of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s alleged extended layoff, Cedric Soares intends to compete for a spot in the Arsenal team for the upcoming season

According to The Evening Standard, Cedric Soares plans to return to Arsenal after his loan assignment to Fulham in order to compete for a spot on Mikel Arteta’s team.

Cedric still has one year left on his contract with Arsenal, but after going on loan in January, many people anticipated him to leave. Instead, it appears that he will likely remain until the end of his contract.

According to reports, Arsenal has told Cedric they want him to stay, and Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury state might be a factor in this. When Arsenal played Sporting CP in March, the Japan international sustained a serious right knee injury. On March 21st, he had surgery to address the issue, and as a result, he was out for the remainder of the campaign.

Tomiyasu will be working hard with everyone, Arsenal first wrote, so he could join pre-season practise in the summer. However, Mikel Arteta has subsequently hinted that the absence would last longer than initially anticipated, possibly six months. He would be sidelined till the end of September on that schedule. The Telegraph then stated that Tomiyasu might find it difficult to perform much before Christmas. Tomiyasu’s precise return date won’t be known for a little while, but it no longer seems likely that he will play in preseason. That would allow Cedric the chance to fill in and temporarily alternate with Ben White.

Cedric has made 12 appearances in 2022–23 with one game remaining, including four for Arsenal and eight for Fulham. He’ll undoubtedly aim to appear more frequently in the upcoming campaign, but White appears to have nailed down that right-back position in Arteta’s preferred starting lineup. The following year, earning minutes won’t be all that much simpler. Cedric played for Sporting CP in the group stage of the Champions League in 2014–15, so if he stays, this would not be his first season in the competition. It has been a while, just like with Arsenal.
