According to reports, a club from the Chinese Super League has offered an offer of £300,000 a week wages to Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Aubameyang joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund last January on a transfer fee of £56 million. The Gabon international has become an integral part of the squad, scoring 41 goals in 65 appearances. This season, Aubameyang netted 31 goals across all competitions and bagged the Premier League Golden Boot alongside fellow Africans Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
According to the Times, Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou Evergrande are looking to lure Aubameyang by offering him a salary of £300,000 a week. Aubameyang’s current contract at Arsenal sees him pocketing £190,000 a week.
This is not the first time a Chinese club is interested in signing Aubameyang. Before he joined Arsenal, Guangzhou Evergrande game very close to signing him for a transfer fee of £62 million.
Guangzhou Evergrande are the most valuable football club in China and have previously bought Brazilian midfielder from Barcelona on a fee of €42 million.
Shanghai SIPG on the other hand are the reigning champions of the Chinese Super League. Like Guangzhou Evergrande, this club also has a few Brazilians in their squad. One of them is Oscar who joined the club from Chelsea in 2017 on a transfer fee of £60 million which is the highest transfer fee paid by an Asian side.
Things aren’t looking very good for Arsenal at the moment. With Alexandre Lacazette already strongly linked to Barcelona, their top scorer Aubameyang is also linked to a move away from the Emirates.
However, given Arsenal’s limited budget in the summer, perhaps the transfer of Aubameyang could give them much-needed funds which they could use to sign more players in the summer.
