Dani Ceballos has not left anything for speculation as his loan spell with Arsenal comes to an end.
He revealed his wishes to play for Real Madrid again after the current season is over.
Many fans would have hoped to see Ceballos signed out permanently but the midfielder specifically chose not to go out with a buy-back clause. He impressed under both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta, even though a freak injury kept him out of the pitch for several months at end.
There were reports earlier claiming that Arsenal were looking to sign Ceballos for around £40m. He featured in the number ten role and even as a deep-lying playmaker and adapted very quickly. Clearly his creativity and eagerness to formulate attacks has made Arteta fond of his compatriot.
“I haven’t spoken to Zidane since I left,” Ceballos told Movistar. “It has to be difficult to have a dressing room with so many players. I don’t think Zidane talks to the loan players. Hopefully [I will play for Real Madrid again]. I now have a contract with Arsenal. At the moment in Madrid, it is difficult to play with the players that are there. Now I am focused on being important at a club.”
Arsenal are strongly linked with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, who they believe is more suited to Ceballos’ current role. Whether the Gunners will be able to pull off the move remains a separate matter.
