Dennis Bergkamp joins Premier League icons in bid to takeover English club

Dennis Bergkamp, renowned Arsenal legend, has joined forces with football greats from Celtic, Liverpool, and Barcelona in an ambitious endeavour to acquire an English club.

Alongside him stand former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt, ex-Celtic and Manchester United striker Henrik Larsson, Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman, and Dutch agent Rob Jansen, forming a star-studded consortium.

Jansen added: “We do this with some people around us and we also have the financiers. It doesn’t have to be in London.

“The plan is to manage the football club in the broadest sense of the word. So the way we think it should be. Training, hospitality, merchandising, marketing, everything.

“It is not yet entirely clear when it will all finally happen. We do take the time to select the club. We are now looking in the Manchester and Birmingham area. It is being taken very seriously now.”

Speaking on a podcast, Jansen revealed their interest in buying an unnamed club.

He said: “We are in the process of buying a club in England. I’m not allowed to say which club yet. I can say which group we will do it with. Ronald Koeman, Dennis Bergkamp, Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt.”

Their eyes are set on League Two or League One clubs, aiming to inject new life and vision into a deserving team. This isn’t the first attempt for Bergkamp, Larsson, and Kuyt; their earlier bid for Wycombe Wanderers in 2019 didn’t pan out, but now they’re back with renewed determination.

The consortium’s focus is on a northern club, with hopes of making a significant impact in English football. Should their bid prove successful, it could mark a significant transition for Bergkamp, who last worked as a coach at Ajax until 2017.

This move signals the coming together of footballing icons with a shared vision for the future of English football, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.
