Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said that many players have improved at Arsenal this season. The Spaniard had a forgettable start to his managerial spell at the Emirates as Arsenal lost their first two league matches to Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, the Gunners have improved significantly during the course of the season and have a very good chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
Arsenal are currently 4th in the league table, one point behind third place Spurs.
Speaking about the players who have improved at Arsenal, Emery said, “We are 25 players, and can only play 11, 18 in the squad, it’s very difficult to give everyone an opportunity to improve. There are some players maybe you can see this year this improvement – Lucas Torreira, Matteo (Guendouzi).
The first time in the Premier League, in this difficult competition, and they are improving I think well. Maybe also sometimes the experienced players help them to do better, with their adaptation to the Premier League. For me also I think it’s these two players.”
Emery added, “Also, Aubameyang is scoring goals as we want. Lacazette also is doing more of a role than last year, and I think now Mesut (Ozil) is working very well. I want to create a team spirit and create one we feel together when winning and feel together when losing. We need to be one strong group with this mentality. Maybe Kolasinac, he is improving. Iwobi, Bernd Leno also is taking little by little more confidence and is stronger in the goal. Each player can help us improve 10, 15 or 20 per cent.”
The Gunners next play Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday and could go to 3rd place in the league table if they win. After the match against Everton, the Gunners host Napoli in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday.
