Unai Emery surprised to know that Matteo Guendouzi is linked with PSG

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is surprised to hear that young midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is linked with a move away to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

The young Frenchman arrived at the Emirates stadium last summer and has impressed in his season in the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that PSG – whose academy saw Guendouzi playing – is interested in signing him for the first-team.

The French champions are understood to be readying a £60m bid, that could lure Arsenal to sell the player, as they seek to fund the incoming transfers in the summer.

However, when asked about the player and his links away from the club, Emery said:

“I am surprised. I don’t want this.

“His development is like we want. He has a big ambition, big quality. Sometimes we need more quality with him and sometimes we need for him to be more stronger in midfield.

“But his development with us is very important and he’s playing with big consistency and I think he is improving a lot. His quality is very impressive for us.”

By the looks of it, Guendouzi would be going no where in the summer, but a big money bid from PSG may tilt proceedings.

Arsenal play Southampton in their league game as they aim to close the gap with the top-four.
