Santi Cazorla draws comparisons between himself and Martin Odegaard at Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfield maestro Santi Cazorla has drawn interesting parallels between himself and current Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

Cazorla, who became famous for his skill on the pitch during his time at Arsenal from 2012 to 2018, recently recognized his admiration for Odegaard’s playing style.

The 39-year-old, who now plays for his childhood club Real Oviedo, has been closely tracking Arsenal’s progress with manager Mikel Arteta.

Although his departure from the Emirates, Cazorla is still an admired character among Arsenal fans, with his exit in 2018 followed by a wave of regret owing to chronic injury problems.

Speaking about the Norwegian, he said to the Daily Mail:

‘I love [Martin] Odegaard.

‘He wanted to be an important player somewhere and at Arsenal he has found that. I see myself in him because when I went to Arsenal I found a coach, in Arsene Wenger, who had so much faith in me. The second season he made me captain almost before I knew how to say hello in English!’

While speaking about Odegaard’s impact at Arsenal, Cazorla noted similarities between their respective transitions to the club.

Odegaard, who joined Arsenal in recent seasons, has quickly become a linchpin in the Gunners’ midfield, showcasing remarkable performances.

Cazorla’s endorsement of Odegaard’s talent carries weight, given his storied history with the North London club.

As Arsenal continues its quest for silverware, Cazorla’s reflections on Odegaard’s journey serve as a testament to the Norwegian midfielder’s burgeoning influence within the team.
