Former Arsenal star Nicklas Bendtner has begun his 50-day sentence in prison. The Danish striker assaulted a taxi driver in September after the driver threw a can towards him and his girlfriend after they did not pay the fare on the taxi’s meter.

Bendtner said, “Of course I wish it hadn’t happened. Both for me and for the taxi driver involved who subsequently lost his job.”

Bendtner initially appealed his sentence but later decided to drop the appeal for the sake of his club and family.

The 30-year old said that he is currently writing a book. “Fortunately, it is never too late to learn and prepare for the future, and so I have decided to gather the stories that did both good and evil to me for almost 31 years”, said Bendtner.

Once considered one of the best strikers in the world, injuries and Bendtner’s attitude saw his career going downhill. Bendtner played 171 matches for Arsenal, scoring 24 goals. After leaving Arsenal, the striker played at Wolfsburg from 2014-2016 before spending a year at Nottingham Forest.

He joined Rosenborg last year and his numbers have improved since. Bendtner has scored 35 goals from 81 appearances for the Norwegian club so far.
