Alexandre Lacazette has backed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to become the new captain at Arsenal.
Granit Xhaka’s mid match stunt versus Crystal Palace means that the Swiss international is no longer the captain of Arsenal.
Earlier this season, Unai Emery had asked his players to vote in their captain and Xhaka came first with Aubameyang second. With Xhaka now out of the running, Aubameyang has been made the new captain of Arsenal.
While there are no doubts of Aubameyang as a striker, the player has never captained in club football before and many have expressed their skepticism about the move. However, Auba’s partner-in-crime and fellow striker Alexandre Lacazette has backed the Gabon striker to deliver as captain of Arsenal.
‘It’s a good thing because he’s a leader on the pitch,’ Lacazette told the club website.
‘I think he has the capacity to be a really good captain. Then also he was the second in command when it came to the captaincy, so it was a natural move forward.’
Unai Emery’s reign at the club is clouding with mayhem and chaos as their has also been reports that several other players, especially the senior stars like Mesut Ozil, David Luiz and co have been left unimpressed by the choice to make Pierre the captain.
It seems like dark days at Arsenal under Emery. Wenger In then again, maybe?
