Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has said that he has no idea about the reason behind Arsenal’s lackluster away form of late. Arsenal have played 8 away games across all competitions in 2019. Out of these 8 matches, Arsenal have won only two and those wins have come against Blackpool and Huddersfield Town, both of whom are extremely inferior opposition. Arsenal have lost 5 away games this year and one of them came against BATE Borisov.
The Gunners had an opportunity to go to third place in the league table on Sunday but they blew that opportunity by losing 1-0 to Everton at Goodison Park. An early goal from Everton skipper Phil Jagielka determined the fate of the match.
Speaking of Arsenal’s performance against Everton, goalkeeper Bernd Leno said, “It was a disappointing result. We played OK but we didn’t have many chances to score. We conceded an unlucky goal at the beginning of the game from a throw-in and it was difficult to play against a deep defence.
The early goal was much better for Everton. If the game stayed 0-0 for longer it would have been much easier for us. In the second half, Everton had some chances after transitions, but we have to improve to play against deep defences and create chances, because I think the next game against Watford will be the same.”
When asked about the reason why Arsenal’s away form has been poor lately, the German said, “To be honest, I don’t know. But we’re still in a good position and in a good atmosphere. Losing one game is not a problem.
We have to keep going, keep working hard and play our style because we’re still in a good moment.”
Arsenal’s next match is at home against Napoli on Thursday. The Gunners need to win by a considerable margin to be in a good position to qualify for the Europa League semi-finals ahead of the away leg at Naples on the 20th.
